(08-2020) Hello Madame Mennes,
First of all, thank you for your email.
It was a very pleasant stay for all of my children and we thank you.
Mrs. Maxley organized things very well and made it possible to repair the air conditioning before our departure, which was important considering the high temperature of the last days!
(Translated from French)
(09-2019) Dear Lydia,
we are back from France and we have been very satisfied with the Chateau Lotoise. All was o.k. From the welcome with Pierre-Louis until the departure on Saturday. The weather was great all the days and we have used the pool, the terraces in front and behind the house also every day. The kitchen was fine and we used it daily for cooking, so that the restaurant has no business with us. A marvelous place to make holidays, quiet and peaceful.
Best regards Walter
After searching a range of web sites covering villas in the South of France, we settled on the villa/castle in Milhac a small village about 20 kms from Serlat le Caneda. A what a great choice it turned out to be. We were a family group of 11 travelling together so form the accommodation, the large dining room and facilities, the underground cellar – all lived up to expectations at least. And the additional gem was the bistro/restaurant 150 metres from the property down the hill which provided excellent food and wine at a very reasonable price. Just one suggestion- order your bread from the bistro at least the day before because it sells out very quickly.
A memorabile family vacation.
(06-2019) Dear Ms. Mennes,
Our stay at the chateau was a perfect dream come true. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the stay in spite of the 41.5° weather. The pool helped considerably. And the air conditioning was both discreet and effective. There was plenty of space where our children and grandchildren could find privacy, and many places where we could play, chat, and dine together. The rooms were both "homey" and well appointed without being "fussy." The oriental carpets are lovely, and we appreciated the original art everywhere. We were pleasantly surprised by the chateau's rural isolation - away from the sounds of traffic and boisterous voices of the city. Yet, everything we needed was at hand, down narrow, bucolic country lanes. The Delicatessen down the hill was marvelous and treated us well. The bakery in the next town over was wonderful - we went there every day. And, of course, Sarlat's market and and Medieval buildings were a delight to everyone. At first the chateau seemed a large, foreign place, but very quickly became like home. Things were easily found and intuitively operated. I would hesitate to write a review just yet because all my adjectives would be superlatives and it might not sound sincere. But this was hands down rated the best vacation ever by all participants, those aged 7 - 80 years old.
Thank you for contributing to a wonderfully memorable vacation.
(10-2018) Dear Lydia,
Bill and I stayed in Europe well beyond our week at Chateau Lotoise. In fact, we just returned home last night! Our travels took us to Tuscany, Florence, Venice, Luxembourg and Amsterdam. So please forgive this delayed response.
We all loved the chateau. It was a far more special stay than at an ordinary hotel and a unique experience for us to stay in an actual castle! Just as important we appreciated the modern renovations and conveniences. It was the only place we stayed in Europe that had a clothes dryer! The dining room was our favorite as it allowed all eight of us to gather and socialize. The terrace off the dining room was a great place to sit and sip a glass of wine as we reviewed places we had visited during the day. The views of the valley and surrounding countryside were stunning!
Thank you for offering a lunch for two at your friend’s restaurant. Unfortunately time did not allow us to use it. We did enjoy a dinner at the village restaurant just down the hill.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.
With kind regards,
(09-2018) Dear Linda,
our stay in the chateau was excelent. We enjoyed the holyday. Nice and remarkable place.
We are thinking to go there again next year.
Thanks a lot.
(08-2018) Dear Lydia,
Thank you very much, we had a wonderful stay at Chateau Lotoise. Our extended family (5 adults, 2 children) found everything we needed in the chateau. The croissant and bread from the local bakery were a delicious start to every day. We ventured out to the wonderful sites around the local countryside each day, then returned to our beautiful swimming pool and relaxing space in the chateau.
(Please feel free to use the above as a reference for future guests.)
One question, will the 1,000 Euro security deposit be returned via credit card? Would you please let me know the information for receiving it?
(07-2018) Dear Lydia,

(08-2015) The Most Amazing Place Ever!”
We could not have been more please with a vacation rental. It is in a beautiful little town where you will be hard pressed to see one other car a day. There is a great restaurant about 250 feet away, and not much else in the town. If you are looking to relax and venture out for day trips, book this place immediately. It was perfectly quiet. No noise, no people, no issues at all. It is by far my favorite place so far. We did so much using this as our base, from outdoor markets in sarlat, to canoeing down the river, to hiking, to visiting the monkey sanctuary, to a cave tour! You will not be disappointed. The beds are all nice. You do have to climb stairs or ladders to reach them BUT its worth it, no doubt. We had a party of 16 people and everyone was happy. The guard tower apartment was an added bonus. Small bedrooms but still amazing! The views are beyond description. The estate sits above the valley and its beyond beautiful. The grounds were all well kept and the pool was perfect! I am hoping it is available the next time we visit because I cannot imagine staying anywhere else. It was that good. The people in the area were all sweet and didn't make us tourists feel bad at all. Everyone was welcoming. Just driving around in the surrounding area is a great way to spend a day.
(08-2015) Morning Lydia,
The week was brilliant and the wedding truly magical. I will send some photos to you when I have some. We did get the water back in time thank goodness!! Please do pass on our thanks to pascal for allowing us to use his beautiful chateau for our wedding. All of our friends loved it there and all want to return! We are now in beaulieu-sur-doredogne about an hour away from Milhac staying at chateau D'arnac. Thank you for your kind offer - I'm guessing we may be a lttle out if the area now!
Many thanks again for all you and your team's help.
You have been fab!

Thank you for the email.
First let me say we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed staying at Chateau Milhac.
The only feedback we have is to suggest to the owner that they lay some kind of pathway (maybe just gravel) from the gatehouse doors to patio outside the house door. We found that even with no rain (just dew in the morning) the walk was generally muddy which meant we had to continually clean up mud from shoes and the house floor.
Once again thanks for everything
(7-2014) Hi Lydia,
Thanks. Definitely we had a wonderful time. I will have some great photos
and will send them on when I get organised.
Overall, I want to say it was a FANTASTIC experience, the location is simply magnificent, the house, the space, the gardens etc. All absolutely amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely recommend.
(8-2013) Hi Lydia,
Just to let you know that we had a fantastic holiday at Chateau Milhac. The pictures don’t do the Chateau or the views justice it is simply a beautiful and tranquil setting, yet an easy drive to the river and tourist attractions such as Sarlat.
Imogen our 4 year old daughter learnt to swim in the pool and by the end of the holiday was doing a length all by herself ?, and my son Rory spent most evenings entertaining us playing the piano.
We met Pascal and his lovely family and enjoyed a great evening and dinner with them.
We had a superb time and we all miss it already ?, so these are not criticisms only suggestions that may make life even easier for guests next year when they stay at this incredible place.
Thank you for all your help in arranging the booking for us.
Best regards Nathan
A great place to stay for a family exploring Perigord-Noir. The chateau setting is majestic while the house is completely modern. The chateau sets the framework for a visit to Perigord-Noir: in the country overlooking valley farmland from a cliff, which means looking down and over thick fog in the morning. The house is mostly new and has four comfortable, private bedrooms with adjoining baths, powerful air conditioning, a well-equipped luxury kitchen, and so on. The guest cottage is simpler but totally charming. The audience for such a special place will be a self-selecting group. For experienced France travelers who can get by in French, this chateau setting is awesome, as is Perigord-Noir. Because Perigord-Noir is more off-the-beaten-track for anglo-saxon tourists, prices of everything seemed to be about half of those in other regions. There were a lot of tourists, but they were mainly French and some Dutch families, with children of all ages. There's a lot to do within a concentric circle of less than an hour, but some level of energy and sense of adventure are required. Sarlat was our default for dinner or free time exploration. Lastly, our free advice to Perigord-Noir explorers is to check out the historical fiction books of Robert Merle (starting with Fortune de France, which is being translated into English for next summer) and the mysteries of Martin Walker, either before coming or while staying at this marvelous chateau house.

Photos did not do justice to the Chateau. It was superb! Everything about it was first rate. Everyone in our party of thirteen loved it. We could have stayed at the Chateau the entire time every day and done no sightseeing!
We've had no experience with French chefs but we thought Julien was outstanding.
Thank you. Walter and Mary
This place could not be more beautiful or unique. I was among 10 friends from San Diego who stayed here for a week. We each had to pinch ourselves regularly to believe we were actually staying in such a magical place. We all admired the skill and thought that went into updating it and making it so comfortable. We had a few problems with appliances, but we contacted the local manager and received prompt attention. The town of Milhac is tiny and charming and a wonderful place to walk. The one restaurant in town, O' Chemin de Lune, is excellent although only open for dinner. The town is a great home location to take day trips from. It was a dream vacation. There are a few things I would point out though that make this not a place I'd recommend for people who have trouble with stairs. Three of the 5 bedrooms in the main house have narrow and steep stairs between their private bathroom and the sleeping area. It's a bit of a challenge in the middle of the night. Staying in the cottage and tower rooms would be like living in a fairytale, but they are also up very steep and narrow stairs, and the two tower bedroom occupants must walk on a narrow cat walk and pass through the main bedroom to use the bathroom. This would be super for a family, but not so good for some adults. Altogether we could not have had a better time.
