Prehistoric sites not far from your holiday villa in Southern France

There are more than 150 prehistoric sites alone along the Vezere River. The most famous is of course Lascaux which although a reproduction, still gives you goosebumps. Other caves are among others that of Font-de-Gaume and Combarelles in Les Eyzies, Rouffignac and Bara-Bahau (engravings), the caves of Lacave and Padirac and numerous smaller sites and / or prehistoric caves. The Périgord is known as the gastronomic capital of France and it has got good reason. Here you can eat foie gras and truffles (les diamants noirs du Périgord) and each town has shops with these local treasures. Other local specialties include duck confit, walnut cake, walnut wine and liquor. Local wines are Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pécharmant. Restaurants are plentiful, and it's hard to find a bad meal in the Perigord.
